To earn money that goes directly towards tuition, I have an internship with the Department of Leadership Education and Student Activities. I started this last semester and had a great time helping promote events, set up, and bonding with my fellow interns and the staff. So far, I am enjoying it even more this semester. One of my projects is to develop and run biweekly trivia nights on campus. Considering I am very into pop culture, this job is perfect for me. I come up with all the questions, themes, and host the actual event. The assistant director of student activities at Fontbonne, Joel, helps me create flyers and promote the events through Twitter (#GSOPC). Typically, the trivia nights start at 8:15 every other Tuesday in the DSAC Caf’. However, this week it will be on Wednesday since the last home basketball game is on Tuesday. This week’s theme is “Broken Hearted.” The questions revolve around celebrity breakups, breakup songs, and other famous relationship drama. Hopefully this tradition will continue to grow and I thank everyone who has been participating (and hope they’ve been having as much as I have been!). Other trivia themes are as follows (the first two have already successfully been completed).

House of Mouse

Revenge of the Nerds

Animation Domination

The Scoop on Hoops

I Love the 90′s!

British Invasion

When somebody is talking about St. Louis, what comes to your mind?

For me, the answers always are the Gateway Arch and the St. Louis Cardinals.

The St. Louis Cardinals are a well-known baseball team based in St. Louis, Missouri. Before studying in St. Louis, I only watched Cardinals on TV when they won the World Series. But, now, I am so lucky I can go to downtown St. Louis and watch a Cardinal’s game in Busch Stadium.

October is an important month for baseball game. Everyone pays attention to watch the game on TV, because it’s the season for gaining the World Series (WS) championship.

Cardinals won for the NLDS (Nation league division series) last week, the miracle for the “Angry Birds” happened again. Let’s celebrate it.

Fontbonne’s students are so lucky because student activities provided the chance to buy special price tickets to watch Cardinals at Busch Stadium. The student activities department also offered students chances to watch the Cardinals’ game on campus together, and gave students snakes and pizza during the games. Therefore, students wouldn’t miss any chance to cheer for our excellent Cardinals. For sure, I also joined the activity to watch and cheer for our Cardinals.

Hoping the miracle for Cardinals will happen this year again.

Let’s celebrate it in advance. Go~ Go~ Cardinals!

Coming down from all the excitement in St. Louis this weekend, on Tuesday night I snapped back to reality and remembered I had big projects ahead of me and needed to buckle down. I had intended to blog about how exciting Friday night was because the Cardinals won the World Series and the on Sunday the Rams won their first game right before the Cardinals celebration parade on Sunday. Then Monday, Tony LaRussa announced he was retiring which was kind of sad, but he went out on a high note! David Freese has been the buzz everywhere! He was on Leno (or was it Letterman?) AND Ellen! He was even at the Galleria mall last night…So close, and I still didn’t get to see him

But other than all the exciting St. Louis stuff, I have been working and going to class all week and working on projects and papers diligently. As soon as I feel like I have gotten ahead in classes, I always get more work assigned. Typical. But I can’t complain too much, I knew what college held for me and I wouldn’t want to give this up! I love college!

Last night, a handful of Fontbonne Clubs put together “The Big Fall Event” to celebrate Halloween!! There were so many entertaining and different activities!! Pumpkin Carving and Pumpkin Carving Contest, Unwrapping a Starburst with your teeth, Costume Contest– just to name a few! I’d name some more but I was sooo distracted by the Pumpking Carving and the S’mores booth that I did not make the rounds to every other booth!

Pumpkin Carving– I haven’t carved a Pumpkin since HIGH SCHOOL!!! Or longer! To tell ya the truth, I missed it! I miss the whole process– the driving to the store to buy the pumpkin, bringing it home, waiting for both my parents to be home in order to carve it, picking out a design stencil and trying to follow it the best I could (I was never good with a pumpkin carving knife, to be quite honest. The specific knives are waaay to dainty for such a laborious task!!) then realizing the end result looks nothing like the stencil! Ehhh, put a candle in it and VOILA its perfect!! As far as scary Pumpkins go!!

Then, I made it out to the S’more booth–well I was working the booth so I kinda had to make it out to the booth! The fire was warm and cozy and the conversations were the same!! S’mores were prepared, burnt, and consumed!! Such a fiery activity!

Now, I am looking forward to HALLOWEEN!! Carved Pumpkin and all!!

Have a FUN (and safe) HALLOWEEN!!

Hello to everyone reading this blog!

This is my first blog for this semester and there is good reason for why that is.

Let’s just say that I’m SUPER involved here at Fontbonne and keeping up with everything can be quite challenging.

Don’t get me wrong though, school is challenging enough, and as a Speech-Language Pathology Major and a Psychology Minor, I have more than enough schoolwork to do.

However, I cannot help but stay involved on campus in some way.

It can be tedious work, but I get a lot out of it.

For example, my personal development has gone through much change since I first came to Fontbonne roughly 2 years ago (I cannot believe I’m a Junior already!).

Plus, it makes for great Fontbonne memories.

Just this month, I’ve already….

Helped with events such as Sibs Weekend with FAB (Fontbonne Activities Board).

Attended the Best of Missouri Market at the Missouri Botanical Garden with Environmental Club.

Made guacamole for and attended the FISA (Fontbonne International Students Association) Potluck.

Help put together a Comedy Night with FAB featuring celebrity Ross Mathews and comedian Taylor Williamson.

Helped with facilitating a Zoo Photo Scavenger Hunt with RHA (Residence Hall Association) and CAB (Commuter Advisory Board).

And the month is only almost halfway through!

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go prepare for my next class along with preparing for the RHA meeting that I’ll be running soon!

Peace, Love, and Penguin!

I think the title will actually be the topic today.

What on earth is a chicken doing crossing the road? Shouldn’t there be zoning laws on a minimal distance a farmer can keep his chicken house near traffic? Shouldn’t the chickens be in an enclosed area anyway? Or, if it is a free range farm, wouldn’t the pollutants from highway vehicle emissions in close proximity to a farm sort of negate the reason of being free? I used to raise chickens and chickens are content with very little and usually have no need to wander far from the coop, and they usually do not. So, I believe the fault, the catalyst, the influence, the reason of why this poor chicken so desperately wanted to cross the road, lies in the hands of this negligent farmer. He clearly, somehow, caused this fowl to feel foul, thus giving this poor, petrified, poultry a preemptive pause to pacify and peruse the Pacific of his paltry existence. Citizens, we are dealing with capon cruelty. I ask again, why did the chicken cross the road? Why? If you still stutter to state, I will say it for you. This pullet needed to fly the coop and escape the verbal/physical/mental/psychological/emotional/spiritual torment to which he was subjected to on a daily basis!

I think I’ll make fish for dinner.

Remember, I’m pulling for you. We’re all in this together.

On campus, they had a comedian that I thought was a hoot! I am a fan of comedians that is if they’re funny. I’ll just say this much, I was laughing hysterically when he made jokes about people who drive and talk to themselves. The things he was making jokes about I do all of the time. It was hysterical, let me tell you. Gosh. It was extremely funny. Usually, I will laugh at one joke, but this comedian had me rolling on the floor!

The next on campus event that I participated in was the hypnotist. Now, I wasn’t into that stuff or so I thought… The hypnotist had me doing things that weren’t out of the ordinary, but they were funny. It was just a time for me to let loose and unwind from school work. That’s all it’s about. Relaxation is the key here! If you’re relaxed then you can let your mind take you to places you’ve never been before. I wouldn’t trade those experiences for anything!

What experience will you have at Fontbonne? Come see what’s going on at one of the upcoming open houses!

During half time this year, there were many different events. The students on the Griffin Gang played dodge ball against the teachers and faculty. There was a dunking contest, a three-point contest, and the dance team and cheerleaders performed. It was a lot of fun seeing everyone getting excited for the events going on and for the upcoming basketball season. Late Night is just a good time to be with friends and to show your school spirit.
