Today is Springfest at Fontbonne. I spent most of today helping the fashion merchandising promotions class with their fashion show. I did odd jobs and helped dress models. Although I was backstage for most of the show, I think it was pretty amazing! I know I have a lot to live up to when I’m in the class next year!

After the fashion show I went and mingled with some of the incoming freshman for next year, and watched the Live Band Karaoke. After a brief dinner break, I’m about to go back for the concert tonight. Ryan Cabrera and Tyler Hilton are performing. I have never heard any of their music, but it will still be an experience!

It’s hard to believe that there’s only a couple more weeks left until summer. I have so much to do until then. It’s a little overwhelming. It will sure be nice when summer arrives and I don’t have to worry about homework or studying! I’m hoping for warm summer weather soon. I just have to make it until May 13th!

Thanks for reading..

It’s weird that we’re so rapidly reaching the end of the school year. I can’t believe that we will be out of school a mere week from today!

Though this entire school year has been a great experience, I’d have to say that I’ve been having the most fun in the past few months. I’ve made a lot of great friends from the biology department this semester, and, though our rendition of “hanging out” usually involves studying, we did manage to have some fun. The BSO was definitely more active this semester than last; we took a field trip to the Butterfly House, and we had more random meetings, which are always very fun. Also, I, along with two of my very good friends, Dillon and Steph (both of whom are bio majors) finally took our unofficial field trip to the zoo that we had been talking about for a long time. While we were there, we were able to feed the stingrays and pet the sharks that had just arrived for their summer stay in Saint Louis.

Springfest, which was yesterday, also offered a lot of fun. The BSO sponsored a dunk tank in order to fund our gorilla adoptions. A few biology majors (including me!) got into the tank, and we even got three of our biology professors (Dr. Rayhel, Dr. Paine-Saunders, and Dr. Truong) to get in as well. Let’s just say that the straight-from-the-hose water was quite refreshing!

So, as we enter the ever-dreaded exam week, we’ll have some fun memories to look back on and a whole summer to look forward to.

One thing that I absolutely loved about high school was Spirit Week. The themed dress days, the pep rally, and of course, the Homecoming dance to wrap it up. I was pleasantly surprised to find that Fontbonne has a Spirit Week, too!

Of course, this being college, things are a little different. The activities are mostly things like a kickball tournament, volleyball game, or window painting. There aren’t any specific themed dress days (although there was a Cinco de Mayo party!) but one thing remains the same – the big finale!

Friday was the most exciting day of the week – Springfest! There were games and activities all day, and a live concert in the evening! It was great. SO much better than high school.

Spirit Week was absolutely awesome this year. I felt that the week brought several students together through the various events that were happening around campus. I had a great time playing water balloon volleyball against some of my friends in the meadow. I also enjoyed the limbo competition as well as going to the women’s softball games during the week. The week had a great atmosphere of excitement and unity. On Friday, Springfest ran very smoothly even though it was moved to the gymnasium due to rain.

Everyone made the most of Springfest in the gym with all of the countless enjoyable activities. There was a dancing area, inflatable bowling, Hawaiian punch pong, ground canoeing, and much, much more. I worked at the Biological Sciences Organization booth during the event. We had a contest in which students would have to toss a penny into a cup in order to win a goldfish. There were numerous winners who left happily with their new pets.

On Friday night, Mr. Fontbonne was held as an event in the DSAC Caf’. TJ Eggleston, Chris Luckett, and I competed for first place, displaying our gifts of spirit, talent, hoola-hooping, and knowledge of Fontbonne University. In a hard-fought competition, I was voted as Mr. Fontbonne. It was quite an honor. The other two contestants were wonderful and had me laughing the majority of the night with their acts. Overall, the week was fun, united us as students, and gave us time to recognize the importance of our school.

Finally, it’s Spirit Week! While this week consists mostly of giveaways and games, for me, it’s kind of a relief. Why? Well, after Friday, FAB is done with events for the year—so my work load lightens a bit! Don’t get me wrong—I’m in love with FAB and the work I do for marketing their events, but it’s definitely nice to have less to do as the end of the semester draws near.

Spirit week has quite the line-up. This year is the first year FAB has run Spirit Week this way, where it leads up to Spring Fest, and the reception has been positive thus far! Monday kicked off with water balloon volleyball, and today was tug-of-war contests, with beach balls, sunglasses, and leis being handed out! Tomorrow, Wednesday, people are encouraged to catch the softball game and the baseball game following it, and Thursday will have a limbo contest, with pina coladas and strawberry daiquiris served in Ryan Hall.

But the best part comes Friday, for Springfest! We’ll have a live band playing—Sleeperstar, check them out!—while we offer free food and fun games with opportunities to win prizes! The main gig runs from 11 to 2, and it should be an absolute blast. (I just hope it doesn’t rain!)

However, I think I’m most excited for 7:30 PM on the eve of Springfest, when FAB brings back the Mr. Fontbonne competition. Some of Fontbonne’s finest men will compete in displays of school spirit, trivia knowledge, and talent. The winner will be crowned Mr. Fontbonne—and win a prize of his choice, including $250! I really think FAB has done an excellent job in planning and putting this event together, so I’m excited to see how it turns out! See you there!

I will be out of town for Springfest so I am enjoying all of the events leading up to it. I had tons of fun playing water balloon volleyball. Libby was my partner and we had a sheet and launched a water balloon over a volleyball net and then the other team had to catch it. We were not that great at first, but we got the hang of it. I had tons of fun and I cannot wait to go to the Limbo contest. I am not that great at Limbo, but I am excited to watch others participate and drink strawberry daquiris!

There’s a growing excitement on campus for the upcoming event of Springfest. Those who have experienced it in past years, those students who have been here for more years than myself—it’s really incredible to think I’ve almost, and yet only, been here a year—are anticipating this event.
Except, I know absolutely nothing about Springfest!
So I checked the Griffin Scratch, the free student planner and handbook and my best friend through my freshman year who has helped me keep track of the weeks and kept me posted on major Fontbonne events. According to the Scratch, Springfest is Friday, the 24th—oh, wait, wow, that’s this Friday!—with two different sets of activities; the day activities run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., while the evening activities begin at 8 p.m. But what are these activities? I’ll have to ask around.
In high school, we also had a Springfest event. Classes were shortened that day and then everyone moved outside to enjoy food, pick-up games of ultimate Frisbee and volleyball, live music from the band “No Child Left Behind”, an all-teacher rock band (every high school has its cool teachers, you know?) For the most part, it was just a day to enjoy not being in classes, to get excited about the end of the year growing near, to take a break from the mind-numbing routine of high school life (which was hardly mind-numbing for me, but still, shortened classes are shortened classes, so who am I to complain?)
So I’m looking forward to fun for Springfest. I won’t know what it is ‘til I get there, but I’ll go all the same. Because I know how these things work at Fontbonne: it’ll be fun no matter what, and it’ll be a great opportunity to be with friends and enjoy this university’s community. Friday, April 24th: see you there!

What else goes on? Check out student activities for more information!

We laughed a lot and watched the guy draw us in less than a minute! I still have the picture to this day! As an RA, I have also gotten to be one of the people who sit under a dunk booth where water balloons get popped over your head. This is a fun way to get other students involved! I mean who wouldn’t want to soak a fellow student or their RA? Also, like everyone at Fontbonne, I love the free food and Ted Drewes and getting to see the Fontbonne community come together. Residents and commuters, organizations, staff and faculty all to have fun and celebrate Spring. Little moments like these I’ll never forget!

This is going to be my third Springfest and they keep getting better and better every year. My first year, I do not remember much other than some of the coaches and staff members were in a dunking booth. The look on their faces when they got hit with water was priceless. Nick Silva was the one face that I could remember the most. After he would get hit, he would have this look on his face that he was like, “okay this is funny, but everyone is going to die at practice tomorrow.” It was funny for me, because I don’t play lacrosse and I did not care if he was soaking wet. Also, I do remember Dan Koehler who was the SGA President at the time, and he was loving it. Every time that he would get hit with water, he would just have a huge smile on his face and having the time of his life.
My second year, that was more filled with big blow up obstacle courses that you can run through. You were tied to each other and had to get a ball or something but once two people ran, they pulled them away and it was hilarious. People were falling all over the place, and it was a great time. I am looking forward to this year because it is always different from every other year. It is always a great time, and this year, the candidates for SGA are going to speak at Springfest so I am looking forward to that. Also, just a free day to do absolutely nothing and a great day of fun!!

A. I could take it out in the tank! Honestly, I wasn’t too good at it, to tell you the truth! But I pulled some strings and had a friend dunk the R. A. of my choice. It was great to see their shocked face of being dunked. They will look at me differently now! I hope they held their breath. HAHAHA. After being dunked they had to walk around in the wet clothes. Fantastic!!!
Another memory would have to be the stupendous inflatables that were at Springfest last year. So I challenged a good friend of mine to a duel! It was awesome. We climbed up to a podium-like space with jousting poles, one for each of us. Then we would try and force the other person to lose their balance. I was planning on showing my friend who’s the boss of that game; unfortunately, she ended up showing me who’s the boss. Anyways, if you lost your balance you would fall on a large inflatable. So all’s good! Even though I was horrible at that game, I still will always keep it dear to my heart.
