This past Friday through Sunday was Siblings Weekend here at Fontbonne. It was an opportunity for my little sister, Kaitlyn, to visit me on campus for the first time since last year. A lot has changed since last year for both of us. She got older and more mature, and our attitude towards each other has turned into a more positive one because she is older and we can talk about real life things.
The weekend started out great with pizza and bingo in the DSAC. Last year at Sibs Weekend we didn’t win at Bingo, so we were determined to win this year. We each had two boards and unfortunately they were not the “hot” boards for the night. We lost but had fun because we were in each other’s company. My friend, Danny, actually won and let Kaitlyn get a prize. We both received kites to fly when we would be together again. It was really nice of Danny to let us have his prizes. Then after Bingo, the Lego movie started, and it was hilarious. Because I was so tired, I fell asleep towards the end. Kaitlyn really enjoyed it too, and actually finished it all. Then later that night there was a build-your-own ice cream bar. We enjoyed the company of my other friends, and then went up to the Griffin’s Nest. We did what we call “Family Game Night,” which is playing cards for hours on end. We played until 2:30 AM, and then finally called it quits.
Unfortunately, Sunday came along. We had a quick breakfast, and she took off for home. It was sad to see her leave after we just had a great weekend together, but we both had to get back to reality — school. On the plus side though, today is Kaitlyn’s birthday, the 23rd of October. As a surprise, I am going home this weekend. It will be the first time I will have gone home since moving in August 9th. I can’t wait to have another fun weekend with my family!
This past weekend was Sibz Weekend here at Fontbonne and I was lucky enough to bring my little cousin, Raimee. She had a blast! Fontbonne Activities board planned so many exciting things for participants to do. The entire weekend was Lego themed, which was such a cool idea!
Sibz weekend began on Friday night with pizza, Lego bingo and the Lego movie. After the Lego movie there was an ice cream bar where you could build your own sundae. It was delicious! Then on Saturday there was a scavenger hunt, an awesome trip to the City Museum and then the night ended with a magic show put on by Justin Willman. Everyone’s minds were blow by Justin’s magic tricks that seemed logically impossible.
All in all the weekend was a success and everyone that joined in on the Sibz Weekend fun seemed to have a great time!
I am so excited that it’s almost Sibz Weekend again! This is an annual tradition that the Fontbonne Activities Board (FAB) started. Being a member of the executive team for FAB, there has been a lot of prep work for this, so I’m eager to see it all finally come together. This is a time for any Fontbonne student to invite siblings, cousins, kids they babysit, etc. to come stay on campus for a weekend. There are many events and activities planned to keep everyone active and having a good time. This year’s theme is all about Legos and is called “Construct Your Own Adventure.” The fun-filled schedule is below.
Friday October 17
-Bingo and pizza
-The Lego Movie
-Build your own sundae bar
Saturday October 18
-Justin Willman performance
-Build your own cupcake bar
Sunday October 19
Justin Willman performed last year at Sibz Weekend as well, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to have him back! He puts on an extremely entertaining comedic magic show. Justin has also been the host of The Food Network’s Cupcake Wars and King of Cones and Disney Channel’s Win, Lose, or Draw. And, he just landed his own show on Comedy Central! He is such a great guy to work with and bring back as a part of the Sibz Weekend tradition. It all begins soon!
As you all know, this past weekend was dedicated to our siblings. Unfortunately, both of my sisters are far too mature in age to have come to it!
Even so, nothing stopped me from having a little fun myself.
Although the Cupcake Wars with Justin Willman, the host of the hit TV show “Cupcake Wars,” WAS in my element, his magic show wasn’t. And I mean that in a good way! I’m not one to be completely and utterly shocked by magic tricks – I’ll tell you that upfront. But I am very glad I went to go see his show because his dialogue was original and he kept the show interesting, even without the ‘ultimate thrill’ aspect. I would definitely want to see Justin again, but with new tricks! The show was, overall, family-friendly aside from some suggestive comments (which us college kids thought were hilarious, of course).
Moreover, I’m really glad I went! It was something quirky for me to attend, even after seeing a few other magicians in the past. It was much needed because there are so many big assignments due within these next two weeks – for me at least! I hope you all can all stay cool, calm, and collected because I know I’m trying my best to put my best foot forward with all the craziness life is throwing at me. Stay positive, stay gold, and ta ta for now!
