War Dance

Came to the campus this past Friday to have FBU Ugandan Bonding night and it was great! We ate McAlister’s deli (which I had never tasted), chit chatted for a bit and watched an inspirational movie called “War Dance.” This movie documented the lives of young Ugandan children who had been affected by the Rebels. Each youth had a different story about losing the life of a loved one(s) and how they currently reside on a military “safe zone” base. They all wished they could go back to their home land but because of the Rebels it was impossible for them to go back.

That movie was so motivating and well worth the 1 1/2 hour or so. It really gave a vast perception of life in the eyes of the Ugandan people and community, it gave hope to me and it made me feel excited that I would be experiencing learning the lifestyle and culture of these wonderful people within a few months (July 23rd). Such a humbling experience.

You MUST watch this movie!

UGANDA be Kidding Me!

in Our Causes

Is Spring semester over yet? What about Summer semester?! LOL LOL. Not quite!!!

I can’t wait for summer to get here! Why?! You ask.

I’ll be traveling to Gulu, Uganda on an immersion trip with a few other FBU students this summer (end of July) and I’m very excited! Did I mention, I’M VERY EXCITED !!! 🙂

Traveling internationally is something I’m beginning to enjoy doing and I know I’ll be doing more international traveling in the future (I’m claiming it right now!) To experience life outside of the US is such a fascinating opportunity and if you allow it, it gives you a different perspective on life once you’re back home in the states. It causes you to appreciate the little things more than ever and to begin living life to fullest! At least that has been my experience.

Have you ever traveled outside of the country? What were thoughts? How did you feel about your experience?

If only spring break could last a little longer. If only my spring break didn’t include a to-do list of homework.

Okay. Enough complaining. Summer vacation will be here soon enough (six and a half weeks, maybe?) and then I will be homework-free. Until then, though, I’m determined to make the most of the rest of the semester!

I got back to St. Louis on Tuesday around noon from my service trip to Kansas City. I was really glad I went! During our last dinner as a group, we took some time to reflect on different parts of the trip. For me, the best part was simply branching out and getting to know a few people I already knew a little better and meeting other people I didn’t know prior to the trip. We spent our days helping others in multiple ways: sorting food at a food bank, helping a lady with some work around her house, driving around the city and indexing litter, and doing odd jobs for Habitat for Humanity. Of course, there was a lot of laughing, some inevitable complaining, and a decent amount of teamwork involved with each job. I definitely think this was the first of many service trips for me as a student!

In other news, I wish the weather would stay warm already. I’m hoping to bring a bike back to school with me, but I’m not going to be riding it very much if the weather insists on being bipolar. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for warm weather! Until then, do me a favor and imagine the sunshine while enjoying this breezy tune by Tennis called “Take Me Somewhere”.

Enjoy what’s left of the break! Don’t procrastinate too much (HA).
