My Internship

by Patricia on April 10, 2017

I recently accepted a retail management internship with Dillard’s. I will be doing it this summer. This was a very long process. First I applied for the same internship at Nordstrom. Instead, they offered me a sales position. They were considering giving me the internship next year. The sales position did not go well. Because it was commission based, it was a very hostile, competitive environment. I was accused of stealing other people’s sales. Eventually, Nordstrom forced me to resign, not acknowledging the amazing sales that I had.

During Christmas break, I worked at Dillard’s. It has no commission and is a much friendlier environment. Everybody worked as a team. I liked it so much that I applied for their retail management internship. It was difficult when the person in charge of it left. I had to fill out my application and be interviewed all over again! I completed the process again and was offered the job last week. I can’t wait to start!

Music 2017

by Patricia on March 31, 2017

There are lots of songs that came out in 2017 that I love. The kind of music I usually listen to is pop. To list a few: Shape of You by Ed Sheeran, Caroline by Amine, Under the Bridge by Adele, Dangerous Woman by Ariana Grande, and Say It by Tove Lo. I usually listen to these songs on Pandora. It is an app you can download on your phone. I listen to Pandora when I exercise. I usually exercise in the DSAC. On the third floor there is a track and I walk around that.

My Spring break was pretty good! I got to relax at home while drinking lots of tropical beverages! I took the GRE so that I can apply for grad school. I’m really glad to have gotten that over with. In fact, I just returned the 5lb book I used to study back to the library today. Returning it felt really good, a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders! This week I was offered the retail management internship at Dillard’s. This was a very long and stressful process. The person in charge of it had left and I had to go through the process of applying and being interviewed all over again! Had I not got this internship I would have a very serious problem!! I would have to go through the strenuous process of finding something else!!!!!

I’m really glad that from now on I can just focus on my studies and that’s it.

This semester is very weird from what I am used to. I have all night and online classes and no day classes. I am still on campus on some days when I have meetings for SGA, FAB, or some other event. I look forward to attending the senior retreat this weekend. Over break I worked at Dillard’s. I am hoping to get the retail management internship this summer. I am┬ámajoring in business & management. Hopefully I will have a job with Dillard’s in the fall. I quit once the semester started. I usually cannot work during the semester while I am going to class. But right now, I am contemplating working on weekends. I often feel like I don’t have enough to do. I am hesitant because before I couldn’t handle going back and forth between work and school. I am still not sure what I want to do yet, but I will decide by this month. I am concerned that I will not be happy with whatever decision that I make.

I wish that it would snow more. I recently saw some snowflakes outside and that made me more hopeful. I love sledding and building igloos and snowmen. Last year I built an igloo and put a treat inside and took a video of my dog going in it. I also love going ice skating. Me and my friends usually go to Steinberg, the biggest skating rink in St. Louis.

Starting My New Job

by Patricia on May 25, 2016

in Career Paths

I have just finished a week at my new job at Nordstrom! I really like it. This is my first step towards my career! After I graduate, I hope to complete the retail management internship and have a job. I work in the dress department, and I have helped a lot of mother/groom of the bride choose dresses. There are lots of things to remember about the register and following up with customers. I also have to organize racks and put things in the right order. The time goes by so fast! I usually get an hour for lunch and I get to shop at the other stores at West County Mall. My paycheck is commission based, the average wage for a sales person at Nordstrom is $16/hour, but since I just started, I’m only earning $11/hour. I hope to get up there this summer!

Besides working at Nordstrom, I have lots of vacation plans as usual and other fun things to do (baking of course) so stay tuned!
