Plans after Graduation

by Patricia on April 10, 2017

in Career Paths

As you already know, I plan on doing the internship at Dillard’s this summer. After that I will either accept a job at Dillard’s, depending if I am offered one. My other option is grad school. The schools that I applied to are Wash U and Notre Dame. Notre Dame is located in Indianapolis. Last week I received a letter saying that people with my profile have been accepted in the past and received fellowships. This gives me hope. I am still considering Fontbonne. Although Fontbonne doesn’t offer scholarships, it allows for flexibility. They allow you to take as many classes you want at a time. I could potentially work at Dillard’s and go to class at the same time. I would rather not do that; I am not very good at doing both at the same time. However if I go to Wash U or Notre Dame, I am required to go full time. At Notre Dame I would have to live on campus because I don’t have a car. I couldn’t possibly work either.

My Internship

by Patricia on April 10, 2017

in Career Paths

I recently accepted a retail management internship with Dillard’s. I will be doing it this summer. This was a very long process. First I applied for the same internship at Nordstrom. Instead, they offered me a sales position. They were considering giving me the internship next year. The sales position did not go well. Because it was commission based, it was a very hostile, competitive environment. I was accused of stealing other people’s sales. Eventually, Nordstrom forced me to resign, not acknowledging the amazing sales that I had.

During Christmas break, I worked at Dillard’s. It has no commission and is a much friendlier environment. Everybody worked as a team. I liked it so much that I applied for their retail management internship. It was difficult when the person in charge of it left. I had to fill out my application and be interviewed all over again! I completed the process again and was offered the job last week. I can’t wait to start!

Why Business?

by Patricia on February 23, 2016

Freshman year, I knew I wanted to major in business. I really liked my business classes because they didn’t require much reading. Personally, I do not enjoy reading that much. I have a hard time paying attention and often fall asleep. Anyway, recently I got an internship at Nordstrom to be completed next summer. This will lead to a job afterwards. Someone who did the internship last year got a job because she had majored in management and leadership. I asked my advisor about this program, and he told me that I would only need to take 5 more classes. So I entered in the program. So that is why I am a double major: business and management/leadership!

We have officially started blogging again for the Spring 2016 semester! My name is Tricia Welch. I am currently a Junior at Fontbonne doing a double major in Business and Management/Leadership. I am currently involved in the Fontbonne Activities Board, which plans the activities all over campus. I am also on the Enactus Team, which does several leadership projects and presents them every year at a national conference. I am also part of Omicron Delta Kappa, an honor society for those in the top third of their class. I recently got a competitive internship at Nordstrom to be done in summer 2017. I also hope to get my MBA soon!

Why did I choose my major?

by Fontbonne University September 23, 2015

I am currently working on my master’s of management. I chose this program because I have managed before and enjoyed it. Managing comes with a lot of responsibility but the rewards are great. One must be dedicated, reliable and able to communicate well with others. I am passionate about managing because it allows me to […]

Andy- Wants To Own His Own Business

by Fontbonne University October 22, 2008

My major is business administration with a concentration in management.   I first started out wanting to do sports medicine and then I moved into accounting.  After taking two classes, I decided that it wasn’t a right fit for me.  At the same time, I was taking management classes and I enjoyed those much more.  […]
