Informed Consumers

It’s been a while since I’ve given an update on the Environmental Club (well, not really but whatever), so I’ll talk about what we’ve been up to recently!

If you hang out on Fontbonne’s main campus, maybe you’ve noticed some new signs on or around the trash cans. These are part of a new campaign put on by Residential Life and Environmental Club. The signs state “LANDFILL”, and are meant to remind everyone of what their waste is really contributing to: overflowing trash heaps throughout the country. Hopefully people will think twice about tossing a plastic bottle that can take eons to decompose on its own!!

Another event the Environmental Club put on recently was our “Eco-Friendly Beauty Night”, where we showed participants how to make their own body scrub using brown sugar, olive oil, vanilla extract, and cinnamon. It was a huge success, if I do say so myself! Making your own beauty products is a lot better for the environment – you avoid all the strange, unpronounceable chemicals, for one thing – and it’s super cheap, too! We’ll probably be having a similar event next semester, so if you didn’t make it to the last one you’ll have another chance. I’ll keep you posted!
