If you are a hockey fan, not matter what team you are rooting for, you know what my title means. It’s that time of year again, and the race for the Stanley Cup is on its way. Last year’s champions were the Chicago Blackhawks — my boys won! This past Friday, I was able to go to game 5, and THEY WON. As of now, you should know that they BEAT THE BLUES. Sorry, not sorry. I love my boys. But back to Friday, It was my first playoff game! The atmosphere was great and exciting. During the game, the Blues fans were trying to get under Chicago’s goalie’s skin by repeating his name, Crawford, over and over again, but right after it would be dead quite. I caught on. So, after they did that I would scream at the top of my lungs, “LETS GO CRAWFORD.” Other Hawks fans joined me too! I made a lot of new friends, all from Chicago. As soon as Jonathon Toews broke through and scored the winning goal in overtime it went crazy. All of the Hawks fans were singing the Chelsea Dagger (our goal song) and “Lets Go Blackhawks” was being said all through the Scotttrade Center. IT WAS AWESOME. This is a night I will never forget! Playoffs are always a good time, BECAUSE ITS THE CUP. My prediction for the last round is Bruins vs. Blackhawks. Yes, I think a repeat will happen.
Over the weekend I celebrated my 22nd birthday. Of course Taylor Swifts song entitled “22” was stuck in my head all day long. My birthday was on Friday. Me and two of my friends went to the last preseason Blues game. It was a lot of fun and also it was my friends first hockey game. I am so excited for the actual season to start. After that we spent the night away downtown and we finished the night at Ihop. Which kind of fit the lyric, “breakfast at midnight”. Finally went to bed around 3am. On Saturday I spent the day with my family. We had lunch at the loop and later that night had a family party. I had a lot of desserts. Then on Sunday I went to the Cards/Cubs game. It was the 50th anniversary of Stan “The Man” last regular season game. I thought that was pretty interesting. Also, interesting to see how we, Cardinal nation comes together.
This past Thursday before my birthday I bought a birthday present for myself. Before my night class started I got an email that said the Blues were adding more games to student nights. I saw what I have been wanting to see. So, now I finally get to see my Chicago Blackhawks on October 9th!!! I may not be a Cubs fan but my Chicago pride is within my Blackhawks and Bears.
I love hockey. It is one of my favorite sports to follow. I have only actually been to a Blues game, but I am a die-hard Hawks fan. So last night was the most exciting night I have had since I have been home. They won the cup! I know Saint Louis fans do not like the Hawks, but I do. They are my home boys, and I have to cheer them on! I am planning on going to the victory parade in Chicago on Friday and I cannot wait. I get to see my favorite players, and maybe get a Shawzy shirt (aka Andrew Shaw #65). I am glad they won but I am sad that the hockey season is over. On that note, We KANE. We SHAW. We CRAWFORD. Let’s go hawks!
Finally finals are over and it is time to relax and enjoy the weather. My first year at Fontbonne was amazing. I had a great time; I made a lot of new friends and did really well in school. Now I am looking forward to hanging out with my high school friends and going to Colorado to see my boyfriend and his family. Which is in 11 days, but who is counting? I will be there for two weeks! That is definitely the highlight of my summer. My best friend had her baby boy on May 7th, so I was able to see him yesterday. His name is Ben and is so cute. So far this summer I have been hanging out with some good friends and watching hockey; sorry Saint Louis — I love my Blackhawks. To me, it feels really weird to be back home in the Chicagoland area. I am actually anxious to come back to school because I am so close to graduation. I only have a year and a half left. I am going to go out with a bang!
