GriffinSummer

Is everyone as sick of all this rain as I am? I think it rained every single day last week, which is very unusual since it’s summer! This week looks a little more promising though! Temperatures look to be in the 80’s all week with some rain possibly Friday, but hopefully it just passes over. While the rainy week wasn’t my favorite, it did allow me to get my crafting on!

Like I told you in a previous post, I love anything DIY and that’s what my summer would mainly consist of. I decided to paint a canvas for my best friend from high school, Ruth. I had no clue what to paint, but after some long hours on Pinterest čÖé I came up with my idea. First, I painted navy stripes onto the canvas. I was able to get clean lines by putting tape to separate the sections.

After I made the stripes, I then painted a quote in a gold metallic color. The quote I chose was “You are capable of amazing things.” It just reminded me of my best friend! I had to go over the words a couple times to make the gold really pop!

IMG_8874After I painted the quote, I felt like the canvas needed a little something extra. I decided to paint a flower in the top left corner and it was actually really easy to make. I used some different shades of pink to create a cute flower with some green leaves attached.

Once I painted the flower, my masterpiece was complete! I was really happy with the way it turned out and can’t wait to give it to Ruth! I think she will love it! I hope I inspired you to create a masterpiece of your own!

Wondering what to do during your long summer break? Maybe you’re getting a little bored and need some ideas of things to do? Well I’ve came up with a list of 3 things to do in the St. Louis area during your break and they’re free!

1. Take a walk through the beautiful Forest Park. I’ve blogged about Forest Park before so you can be sure that it’s a great place to go! Forest Park is roughly 1,200 acres and is absolutely gorgeous! I often take walks with my friends throughout the park and the scenery is always spectacular.

2. The Missouri History Museum is another great place to visit and the fact that admission is free just makes it even better! Sometimes special exhibits cost so beware of that, but general admission is free. There are ancient artifacts and amazing displays that will make you feel like you’re back in another era.

3. A third place I recommend is the St. Louis Zoo. Similar to the History Museum, general admission is free, but special exhibits or attractions do cost. General admission in the Zoo will give you access to see all your favorite animals including lions, tigers, and bears…oh my!

All 3 of these places are great to go to if you find yourself a little restless┬áduring summertime. I know I’ll be going to each one during my break!

People who don’t know me that well or just meet me randomly wouldn’t guess that I would like metal/hardcore rock music. I love it!! It is what I have grown up with and when I found out that Korn and Avenged Sevenfold were headlining I just had to go. Mayhem fest was last week at the Verizon amphitheater; this was my second Mayhem experience and it is my favorite. It was so much fun and all of the bands were really good. The weather was so perfect, only high in the 70’s. Thank you! The last Mayhem fest I went to was the Chicago one four years ago and it was SUPER hot. Phew, dodged a bullet on that.

I had a few interesting experiences. For the band Miss May I, my friends and I were up close to the stage, which I knew might have been a bad idea for small people like myself. Yeah, it was. People like to crowd surf at these things and of course they were coming in my direction. Trying to push people double or even triple your size is tough. I went down a couple of times, but got right up to push more people out of the way so they wouldn’t fall on the concrete. I was more concerned with their safety than mine. After Miss May I the next band was Suicide Silence, which I love but there was no way I was staying in that crowd. I needed a break. I am glad I was on the sideline because Ice T walked passed me! He was performing with one of the bands. I am a huge Law and Order:SVU fan so when I saw him I almost died (not really, but you know what I mean).

It was such a fun day. Totally worth my $32. I got to see on of my favorite bands (Avenged Sevenfold) and had a great time with my friends.

Yes, this year my family and I started the 4th all decked out in red, white and blue in Lambert airport. At 4 a.m., I was going through security to get on a plane to go to Mexico. Now, it wasn’t just a normal family vacation. My cousin was getting married. It was a week-long family vacation.

The resort we stayed at was all-inclusive. So, we had all the food and… alcohol we wanted. My family took full advantage of that. I had a lot of first experiences while I was there. I went Kayaking, which I was super nervous about at first. I’m glad I did it though, it was so much fun! I highly recommend it! I saw MJ for the first time. Not really, it was a Micheal Jackson impersonator. I had some Salmon and Lobster. I found out that I love salmon, and hate lobster. It was also my first time swimming in an ocean…with sting rays! No, it wasn’t an excursion. At first I was freaked out but I got use to them. Most importantly this was my first time seeing my cousin getting married and it was beautiful. I am so happy for him and his new wife.

Between all the shenanigans I made some new friends! Iguanas roamed around the resort. I saw at least 10 a day. Possibly could be the same ones but it is still a lot. We had a waiter throughout the whole week named Lorenzo and he was the sweetest. He went out of his way to make sure we were satisfied. He said he only makes $4 a day, so we made sure to tip him well because he deserves it, while he is trying to look for work in America. Within a year he will be able too, and I hope the best for him!
