Summer Get-A-Ways

by DeMarcus on July 5, 2016

in After College

While we haven’t quite reached the summer solstice just yet, some friends from Room 316 and I have started to plan for next summer. We were watching “Gossip Girl” season 2 when Blair was returning back home to the Hamptons with her new boyfriend, while Chuck Bass was waiting for her with a bouquet of flowers….that didn’t end so well, but anyway… that was when we all agreed that we should go to the Hamptons. Another friend suggested that we should Airbnb. Airbnb is this website that you can go and request to live in another person’s house while they are away on vacation. I then looked on the website to view the various homes that are located in the Hamptons. Some of the houses looked amazing from the outside but hideous on the inside. The houses that were outstanding both inside and out either cost too much or did not have adequate living space for seven people. In addition to that, the owners did not want parties inside their homes… like you live in a secluded area with no entertainment. Moving on, we scraped that idea, and I started to look at Miami.

Miami is way cheaper and affordable for freshly soon to be graduated college students. I believe we came to this conclusion because we were all watching “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” and the episode that aired was Kourtney and Kim were going to Miami to expand their brand, DASH, a family owned store. This gave me such nostalgia because I remembered “Kourtney and Khloe take Miami”, which was the best spin-off ever created. As I searched Airbnb and so far found the perfect apartment that is both stylish and youthful. While I think every person who is a host on the website doesn’t want parties in their apartment/house, Marki reminded me that since we will be in Miami, we don’t need to stay in the apartment, which I totally agree.  We plan on driving to Miami and stay for about a week.

I am looking forward to what senior year has in store for but I am also excited for the fun plans that my friends and I are making to capitalize on successes that we have achieved here at Fontbonne and in our own personal lives. No matter where we go via Airbnb, we’ll make the most of our time together. Anywhere we go we bring the party, we bring the atmosphere, and we bring the attitude.

This week has been so much fun! Last week we were in universal studios, and this week we went to St. George island and rented a house. Everyday I went surfing. I also celebrated my 21st birthday. My dad got me a bunch of vodka in different flavors. We also went to a restaurant called the Blue Parrot and I got a drink called Orange Dreamsicle. It was spiked with rum. My mom and I did some shopping, and I bought some turtle shells. We also went kayaking in our back yard and went crabbing!

If I lived in the south by the ocean, I would definitely be a surfer. Every time we go to Florida, I spend most of the time surfing. I really like the waves, and I could do it all day long. If I lived in the south I would also go scuba diving and I would love to ride with the dolphins. I would also collect seashells and sand dollars and make the same souvenirs you see in gift shops!

Trip to Chicago

by Patricia on July 27, 2015

in Extracurricular

Last Wednesday my brothers and I took the train by ourselves to Chicago to visit my aunt and cousin. The train was fun because I got to watch movies on my computer. Once we got there, we got to walk around the city. We went to a french market, and I got to try Belgian fries, mini doughnuts, and a lavender tea smoothie. Then we went to a Greek restaurant. The next day we went to Chinatown, and then we walked on Michigan Avenue. The next day we went to the beach and then went back to Michigan avenue and stopped at Ghirardelli. I got a giant cup of ice cream. We also stopped at the American girl store. Then we went shopping at the Water Tower Mall!  The next day, our parents picked us up, but first we went to a breakfast restaurant and I got cinnamon roll pancakes!

On Tuesday I caught an early flight from Raleigh back to Saint Louis. I was in Raleigh, NC for a week visiting my boyfriend’s family and spent some time exploring the area. I was pleasantly surprised with how much I loved Raleigh! The city had a small-town vibe with the excitement and entertainment of a […]

2nd week of my trip

by Patricia June 29, 2015

During the second week in Florida, we rented a house on St. George Island. It had a really, really long dock that we used for fishing, crabbing, and kayaking. The kayaking was a little hard, since I had never done it before. But I spent most of my time at the beach. I love to surf […]
