Going to college in St. Louis, you should be well aware that the weather changes quite frequently! The past couple of days the weather has been fairly bipolar. This weekend was absolutely gorgeous outside! I loved driving with my windows rolled down, and my music blaring, and being able to wear my shorts again! It was a nice break from the fall temperatures. But within the matter of hours it went from sunny and hot to raining and freezing! Then today, it was a shocking cold! I wore my Bear Paws (Knock off Uggs) yoga pants, a hoodie, and a scarf! It was too cold! If you choose any school in Missouri, be prepared for any season’s weather, not during it’s own season! Don’t be afraid of this either, cause it allows you to mix up your outfits a lot more frequently! You can have clear, blue skies one day, and snow the next and I wouldn’t change it for a thing! I love St. Louis’ bipolar weather!

I’ve got another busy week ahead of me, which is the way I like it. Especially when the week is spent doing things I want and choose to do.

Wednesday night, FAB (Fontbonne Activities Board) is hosting a free event at Wild Country. So, I will be line-dancing the night away in my cowgirl boots!

Thursday night there is going to be a “Meet and Mingle” event at Fontbonne. Professionals that work in the fashion industry will be here to talk about their careers and open to any questions that students may have. Although this may not seem very fun, I am looking forward to it. I am hoping to learn about more internship opportunities. Plus, it’ll be a great event for networking.

Friday and Saturday I will be working. But that’s okay, because after I get off Saturday, it will be movie night in the meadow! As part of my internship, I will be helping set up for the event. This will be the fourth time this semester that Fontbonne has played a movie outside on the giant projector. So far, we’ve watched The Hunger Games, The Avengers, and 21 Jump Street. The title for this Saturday is yet to be announced. Students had the chance to vote this time. Some of the choices were Toy Story, Monsters Inc., Little Rascals, Goonies, Lion King, Fever Pitch, etc. I would like any of them, but Monsters Inc. won my vote. I LOVE Disney Pixar films. And, the Monsters Inc. sequel is coming out June 2013, so I’m already getting pumped for that!

Have a great week. It’s important to work hard, but don’t forget to play every once and awhile too!

The past few days have felt like heaven outside. The colder temperatures and rainy days make me so excited for fall. Although it is still technically summer until September 21, I’m already in autumn mode. There are just so many awesome things to do during fall, like apple picking, bonfires, carving pumpkins and of course, haunted houses around Halloween. And don’t get me starts on all the awesome food you can really only make when it’s colder outside, like hot chocolate, soups, and pumpkin pies.

I work at St. Louis Bread Company, and we just started selling our new fall items like the pumpkin cookies and new turkey and cranberry panini, Sonoma chicken stew and turkey harvest salad. And, my personal favorite, the pumpkin spice latte! (Which is awesome by the way, and you should try it). Oh my gosh, I fell like such a little kid. I’ll just be standing in the bakery looking at all the wonderful fall treats, and I’m doing all I can to keep myself from jumping up and down with excitement. I just want to put on my rain boots and go skipping through the pumpkin patch. (okay maybe that’s going a little too far. Ha Ha) But in all seriousness, the season change makes me super happy and excited. And with all the fun activities on campus with the dedicated semester, this year started out great.

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and I can’t wait! Thanksgiving means a break from school, family time, and some really yummy food, which just happen to be three of my favorite things! :] I kind of feel bad for Thanksgiving because it always seems to get overlooked with Christmas soon after it. But I really enjoy Thanksgiving. Fall is my favorite time of the year, and when I think fall, I think Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is one of the most important holidays because it reminds us to be thankful. No matter what circumstance you’re in, you should be thankful for something. When you’re thankful for something, that means you appreciate something in your life, which is a good thing! This year, I’m thankful that I have a beautiful, loving family that supports me in everything I do. I’m also thankful for my education here at Fontbonne, and that I found a new home here. Hopefully everyone can find something they are thankful for as well, because I think that when you are thankful, you are happy! :] I hope everyone has a happy and safe Thanksgiving this year! :]

This week I’m facing a dilemma of not only putting off my homework but now I don’t have access to a file that I need to read for an assignment. Had I not procrastinated I would have seen this problem ahead of time and called the Technology Department at Fontbonne.

Did I mention it would not be the first of many calls that I’ve made to those kind hearted people that work in technology? They are always so patient in helping me through the latest dilemma I find myself in. After being married to my IT guy hubby for a while, I dread what these poor technology people think of this computer challenged student. I am always thankful for their patience, their capability to help me in a reasonable amount of time and for their grace enough not to laugh at me. The last time, I called a few weeks ago, I shared this with them and they said that they aren’t there to laugh but to help. I consider that a blessing in itself and I go to sleep soundly tonight knowing that in the morning the technology department will help me sort out where I’m going wrong or give me the “total access” that I need.

May all you trick or treat fans out there find more treats than you do tricks over the coming week and be blessed in all that you do.

Blessings- Sherry

I woke up one morning last week and thought to myself, “I think we need a rainy day in the near future.” Finally! Despite the fact that I hate walking to and from class in this rainy haze since I don’t have any really warm clothes or an umbrella with me at school at the moment, I’m super happy with the weather that we’ve been experiencing the past few days. Some resort to such harsh words as “dreary”, “depressing”, or “nasty” to describe it. But me, I prefer different, kinder adjectives when referring to gray, rainy days. And besides, who wants to sit in his or her room and study when it’s sunny and warm out? When it’s cold and rainy, you actually want to be indoors doing homework. Okay, maybe that’s stretching it a bit, but you get my point.

Tomorrow is the first mid-term of my college career, despite the fact that I’m a sophomore. How I got so lucky last year, I don’t know. Wish me luck, and good luck to anyone else who still has tests to take! Friday will be here before we know it.

Lately it seems that I’ve been hearing an awful lot of baseball talk around Fontbonne. Come to think of it, I’ve also been seeing a lot of red. A lot of CARDINAL red. Yes, it seems that ever since the Cards clinched the Wild Card, everyone has jumped on the fair-weather-fan bandwagon.

Wait, don’t get me wrong. I’m not hatin’. Heck, I’m right there on the bandwagon, too. See, even though I was born and raised here in St. Louis, I’ve never considered myself a die-hard Cardinals (or Rams or Blues) fanatic. I don’t think I even watched a baseball game all summer. But hey, this is still my hometown, and if we’re in the World Series, then why shouldn’t I be excited? I busted out all my Cards gear – including my National League Champions shirt from 2006! Which, um, I last wore in 2006.

But anyway, I’m super pumped about the Cardinals, along with everyone else in St. Louis. But what’s really nice to me are all the people rooting for the Birds who aren’t from St. Louis. I’m seeing that a lot more now that I’m in college, and I think it’s just super. Because whether you’re originally from here or not, ST. LOUIS IS IN THE WORLD SERIES!!!!!!! So, again, why not be excited?!?!

…Just don’t expect to see me at a baseball game next June.

I’ve worked in the entertainment department at Six Flags St. Louis for 3 years now, and boy, has it been a blast. This year, however, is my very first year working Fright Fest. Fright Fest is basically exactly what it sounds like, scary attractions and themes the park adds around Halloween time. This Fright Fest has been a blast so far, and I definitely recommend everyone visit the park sometime during the next month before Six Flags closes for the winter. The shows this year at Fright Fest are especially fantastic! I am in the show “Love at First Fright,” which takes place 3 times a day Friday-Sunday at the Palace Theatre. This show is super fun and enjoyable for people of all ages! Another show you definitely want to check out is “Dead Man’s Party,” which takes place outside the Palace Theatre on the Palace Porch. The show consists of 8 very talented/creepy ladies who dance the night away to some entertaining, hard core music. They will blow you away with their awesome choreography and creepy disposition. Those are just a couple of the amazing shows and attractions that Fright Fest has to offer this season at Six Flags St. Louis. Trust me, you don’t want to miss this Fright Fest! You might be scared, but you won’t be sorry!

Fright Fest at Six Flags St Louis occurs every weekend through October:
Fridays: 6:00-11:00
Saturdays: 12:00-11:00
Sundays: 12:00-8:00
Hope to see you there! :]
