Hey, remember back before Thanksgiving when I started talking about Christmas Around Campus? Well, it’s drawing nigh, so let me drop a reminder!

Christmas Around Campus is a great family event that is an annual tradition for Fontbonne. There are games, food, crafts, and plenty of other activities. Oh, hey, the Environmental Club will be there as well, showing you how to make your own gift tags out of old Christmas cards. Imagine that!

So let me extend an invitation – hopefully you have already RSVP’d and are anxiously awaiting a lovely evening, but if not I’m sure you could drop by and no one would be the wiser – to enjoy Christmas time at Fontbonne! It is happening this Sunday, December 4, from 4pm to 7pm. Come get in the holiday spirit!

Unlike some of my friends at Fontbonne, I still have finals until Monday, Dec.13, which I’m not thrilled about but have to deal with. I’m getting super anxious and cannot wait to be freed from the stress of finals week. To put things in a more positive light,  the past weekend was Christmas Around Campus and Fontbonne knows how to celebrate Christmas, that’s for sure! Plus, I love the sense of community that comes along with this event. This year, I had the opportunity to be a volunteer at Christmas Around Campus and it was a pleasure being a part of making it a success for attendees.

Below are some pictures I took on that day:

Before the Christmas Around Campus festivities started, Fontbonne put on an event called the Reindeer Run. I was excited because participants were able to receive free reindeer antlers, a Rudolph nose, and a shirt for participating.

The Griffin Girls (Dance Team) helped to paint children’s faces.

NSSLHA (National Student Speech Language Hearing Association) helped at activities like the craft table.

Ice sculpture!

Train sets were in the DSAC Caf’ area.

New this year, there was even a game room with giant screens in the Aerobics room.

Finally, here’s a picture of the winning masterpiece for the can art contest!

By the way, it is snowing right now and it is not helping my lack of focus to study for finals, because all I want to do is play in the snow…

Peace, Love, and Snowflakes.

I attended the festival with my 2-yea- old daughter and 2-year-old cousin.  I have to say that we enjoyed every aspect of the festival. They were fascinated by the huge glow balls that you could climb into. It was freezing out but we still partook of the petting zoo and the carriage ride. The chilli and hot chocolate were superb. The entertainment was endless and I could barely pull them from the train. Kudos to Fontbonne for the celebration of winter. There was perfect weather for the event.   thank the committee for setting this up so perfectly. It was enough to tire the 2-year-olds, they were out like a light.

So what is there left to talk about this semester you might ask? “Tons” is what I would say! Today is Fontbonne’s annual Christmas Around Campus. For those of you who live under a rock, Christmas Around Campus is the event that Fontbonne hosts every year celebrating the Christmas season. Students volunteer to run activities, decorate, and be part of the live nativity scene. It’s pretty much a raging time, especially because we invite the Clayton community to the big party as well. The more the merrier, I always say.

This year should be pretty interesting though. There was a big goal for the canned food drive—5,000 cans!  I hope that everybody donated. The cans are supposed to go to the St. Patrick Center, which is a place that helps people who are homeless or about to become homeless. It basically helps people get back on their feet. With the economy the way it is right now, I think this charity was an excellent choice for our campus community. One way of getting the goal is the “Canned Art” competition. Teams have to create some sort of structure out of canned goods. I think it will be an interesting competition. Anyway, I better go, I have some homework to get done before I head out to Christmas Around Campus. I hope to see you there!

It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas!

by Alumni Posts December 7, 2010

The Christmas decorations are up! They arrived gradually, with the bushes in front of Ryan Hall lit up with Christmas lights on Sunday, and then the Library was spruced up with some garland and a nativity scene by Wednesday. Now, there are Christmas trees inside our buildings with lights and ornaments (purple and gold, of […]

Semester is almost over.

by Alumni Posts December 7, 2010

I’m so happy that the semester is almost over! I have been so busy with all of my classes. This week, I’m running a donation drive on campus to donate towels & blankets to the animal shelter. All proceeds will go to Animal Protective Association of Missouri (APA) in Brentwood. This is my Advocacy project […]
