My Internship

by Patricia on April 10, 2017

in Career Paths

I recently accepted a retail management internship with Dillard’s. I will be doing it this summer. This was a very long process. First I applied for the same internship at Nordstrom. Instead, they offered me a sales position. They were considering giving me the internship next year. The sales position did not go well. Because it was commission based, it was a very hostile, competitive environment. I was accused of stealing other people’s sales. Eventually, Nordstrom forced me to resign, not acknowledging the amazing sales that I had.

During Christmas break, I worked at Dillard’s. It has no commission and is a much friendlier environment. Everybody worked as a team. I liked it so much that I applied for their retail management internship. It was difficult when the person in charge of it left. I had to fill out my application and be interviewed all over again! I completed the process again and was offered the job last week. I can’t wait to start!

Music 2017

by Patricia on March 31, 2017

in Academics

There are lots of songs that came out in 2017 that I love. The kind of music I usually listen to is pop. To list a few: Shape of You by Ed Sheeran, Caroline by Amine, Under the Bridge by Adele, Dangerous Woman by Ariana Grande, and Say It by Tove Lo. I usually listen to these songs on Pandora. It is an app you can download on your phone. I listen to Pandora when I exercise. I usually exercise in the DSAC. On the third floor there is a track and I walk around that.

My Spring break was pretty good! I got to relax at home while drinking lots of tropical beverages! I took the GRE so that I can apply for grad school. I’m really glad to have gotten that over with. In fact, I just returned the 5lb book I used to study back to the library today. Returning it felt really good, a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders! This week I was offered the retail management internship at Dillard’s. This was a very long and stressful process. The person in charge of it had left and I had to go through the process of applying and being interviewed all over again! Had I not got this internship I would have a very serious problem!! I would have to go through the strenuous process of finding something else!!!!!

I’m really glad that from now on I can just focus on my studies and that’s it.

Finally! Spring Break! Is it just me or was Spring Break very much needed? It feels like Winter Break was forever ago, but that is not the point of this post. What am I going to be doing? Well, I will be decompressing for a day and then it’s time to get to work. I will be working on and improving my projects that I am currently working on. I have some new ideas currently cooking and I am in the process of drawing out blueprints, prototypes, etc. For what exactly? I am not going to disclose that information. Who knows, you may see & use it in the future! Time will tell. Until next time guys, stay classy!

Passion. What am I passionate about? Well, first and foremost, the project that I have with the Fortune 500 company. On top of that, I have come up with an idea that I think will become a massive hit! And yes, that is the entrepreneur in me talking… It will not matter if I have a development team or if I will be a one man show. I see potential in the software that I am developing. At this current time, I will not disclose any information about the second idea mentioned previously. I personally feel that the software that I am currently developing will help people become more efficient from both a business perspective, and also from a personal perspective as well. And I am not afraid of failure. I have failed several times, so now, the failure does not bother me. I see it as a learning experience. I think Thomas Edison said it best when he said, “If I find 10,000 ways something won’t work, I haven’t failed. I am not discouraged, because every wrong attempt discarded is another step forward.” Until next time guys, stay classy!

Beyond Excited!

by Yuri February 20, 2017

Everyone has heard of the phrase: Good things come to those who wait. But in fact there is a second half to that saying that many may or may not know about – and that is: Better things come to those who go out and get them! And quite frankly, I can personally relate to this! […]

MVP: The Most Valuable Professor

by Yuri October 18, 2016

Where do I start with this post – Most Influential Professor. Even though I’m still a Junior and haven’t graduated from Fontbonne yet, it would be difficult for me to pick a professor that has influenced me to: Learn More. Be More. IF I had to choose as of this moment, I would have to […]

Presidential Goals

by Yuri September 19, 2016

It is 10 AM, I’m walking into the Anheuser-Busch Hall Conference Room with a freshly brewed cup of coffee in my right hand while glancing at my left as it holds an agenda while I prepare for that week’s meeting. Being President of an International Non-Profit Organization has its ups and downs. I have been President for 2 years now […]

College Realities

by Patricia March 4, 2016

Once I went to Fontbonne, all the advice I got in high school was not true. Everyone told me that teachers did not care if you went to class and that classes were extremely hard. At Fontbonne, the teachers do care about students coming to class and they care about students learning. In one of my […]
