Have you been looking for an group to get involved with? Try out Griffin Gang! Our group is all about getting students to the games to support our teams. Every week our executive team gathers to discuss ways in which we could get more involvement from the crowd. Of course, our sports teams are not as big as D1 schools because we are only D3, but our athletes work just as hard and deserve their friends and colleagues at these games just as much.
Griffin Gang has specific sponsored games for each sport. They are always home games that we sponsor, and they always have a theme so our crowd can be just as involved! Our next game is the Women’s and Men’s Basketball Senior Night. These games will be played this Saturday at 1 and 3 PM in the gymnasium. The theme for these games are dressing as “Senior Citizens” for Senior Night. Fans can dress in their grandpa’s coat or whatever they see fit for the theme. It is all in a matter of fun to have everyone included!
When we sponsor games, Griffin Gang has a table that is placed at the entrance of the field or at the bottom of the bleachers when fans walk in. You really can’t miss us! We are there to welcome you to the game, tell you about the upcoming games and themes, and put a star in your punch card. If you don’t know what a punch card is then you should come to our table more often! Griffin Gang gives a prize to students if they receive 10 punches in their punch card just by coming to the games and stopping by our table. The prize is a free t-shirt! Next year for the school year ’15-’16 Griffin Gang will be ordering new shirts since so many students have filled out their cards, which is great! Hold on to your cards in the summer if it is not yet completed. These cards do roll over to the next year, and who wouldn’t want another Fonty Tee?!
If you have any questions about getting involved with Griffin Gang or want more information about what we do, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Go Griffins!
(First time blogger — I’m not going to lie, i’m a little nervous!)
I don’t know if you’ve heard but the division 3 Fontbonne Men’s basketball team just defeated the SLIAC #1 ranked team in Spalding University for the first time in program history! Both teams fought hard the entire game but the Griffins came out with the WIN to continue their hunt for a spot in the SLIAC Conference Tournament. Go Griffins!
Here at Fontbonne there are 18 different sports teams. These teams occupy 8 different sports for men and women but also includes a men’s lacrosse team and women’s dance team; our very own “Golden Girls.”
As a transfer and a member of the men’s basketball team, I am able to see the athletics of Fontbonne with a different perspective than a student who has been here their whole college career. For those of you looking to play sports, I can honestly say one thing; this is NOT a Division 1 school. If you are looking for a Division 1 atmosphere with 12,000 fans at every game, do not come to Fontbonne. However, there is a certain beauty to the atmosphere here at Fontbonne. If you are looking for a group of coaches that cares about your performance in the classroom as well as on the field, to help you grow as a athlete but also as a young man or young lady, come to Fontbonne. If you are searching for a student body who knows you by name or a student body who is outgoing, brave, and proud enough to cheer for you at every single game, come to Fontbonne. If you just want to branch out or try something new by playing a sport, come to Fontbonne. Fontbonne has employed an outstanding group of coaches who will welcome you with open arms and open ears to make your choice worth while. I receive a large amount of support from the campus, family, friends, and through the FAB (Fontbonne Activities Board) with promotional games like “where’s waldo” or “coaches for cancer” which is something that will not only be absent in most Division 1 schools but most Division 3 schools as well.
For me, each and every day is a grind. I am not only grinding to better myself in basketball but I am literally grinding my body away in my 4th season of college athletics. How do I do it!? I am thankful to have an incredible training staff who is there to help me when I get bumps and bruises. Moreover, they are there to listen to me by apply critical thinking skills to help me not only aid my injuries but to make me better than I was before! With a hands-on staff, interns from St. Louis University school of medicine, and fellow supportive teammates, the trainers will be a mom away from home for any athletes who like to get down and dirty to represent Fontbonne University!
Here at Fontbonne we have campus event almost every week. Basketball season is about to begin, and this year Fontbonne’s “Late Night” has turned into “Griffinsanity”. In the gym this Friday from 7-9 p.m. students, Fontbonne alumni, and others will be entertained with music, contests, boy’s and girl’s basketball scrimmages, and two performances from the Griffin Girls! As if that isn’t enticing enough, the first 75 students will receive a free Griffinsanity t-shirt!
As a part of the Griffin Girls dance team, I have been preparing for this event along with the rest of the team for the past month. We have really worked hard to make our performances the best they can be. I hope all of you try to make it, not only to see the routines, but to support Fontbonne Athletics. We have a jazz performance and a routine with special guests prepared for all who attend. Your Griffins need your support this Friday so come and check it out!
I am especially anxious about Griffinsanity this Friday. I am both nervous and excited because it will be my first dance performance in a year and a half! Whether you’re interested in dance, basketball, or just the chance of winning some neat prizes, Griffinsanity will be the place to be Friday night.
Until next week…
It’s that time of year again! Our Women’s basketball team has made it to the conference tournament. We got the third seed in the tournament, facing us up against Eureka College on Friday night. It has been a long season full of hard work. I am so glad it paid off! I love playing with all of the girls on the team. It is really cool how easily we all connect. Our passion for the game is the glue that holds us all together. Wish us luck this weekend!!
