Service is important because it is an opportunity to help others less fortunate than you or people who just simply need help. It gives an opportunity for networking and builds a sense of community. It is important for Fontbonne to encourage to participate in community as a whole because together we can make BIG things happen. We are the face of our school so when people see that Fontbonne is volunteering, it gives us a good reputation. We want to share the love that Jesus shared with us when he died on the cross and this is one way we can show and example of Christ’s love. Showing Christ’s love is why volunteering is important to me personally. School volunteer days have influenced my thoughts on service and community contribution.
This topic is perfect for me right now. I’ve recently gained so much weight since I moved on campus and let me tell you, it is not pretty at all. My boyfriend kept trying to get me to work out and eat healthy, but it was so hard and I just kept getting bigger and bigger. Pretty soon I became self-conscious about my weight and decided that it was time for me to start “working out.” I would work out for two days and then stop and go back to my old habits. I felt like I had to do it rather than I wanted to do because it would make me a healthier person. I stopped pressuring myself to lose weight and just decided to do it one step at a time. I first cut back on sodas and now I drink only water. Then I started eating salads, daily and replacing fatty and sugar snacks with grapes, strawberries, and raisins. I do eat meat but not big portions of it like I use to. Eating a salad and drinking water before a meal can help you cut back on over eating. I bought a scale and so far I have lost 4 pounds in about a week. The best key to losing weight is to try and do it naturally. Don’t force yourself because then you’ll feel under pressure and it’ll feel more like a chore that you don’t want to do. Instead of telling you brain, “I can’t have this cookie,” tell your brain “I don’t want this cookie.” Little steps like these can take away huge pounds!
I chose this image because this is a picture of me and two of my friends at Fontbonne University. As you can see they aren’t the same color as me but that didn’t matter to us. We were having a great time at a Fontbonne party just mingling and talking with everyone. We had a blast that night and that is a night I will never forget. We took photos, danced, talked to friends, and listened to music. There were a lot of adventures that night. I was making freestyle raps that did not make any sense and trying to get people to stay and party longer. That night no one saw color, we just saw a good time at Fontbonne. This is what makes Fontbonne special.
My spring break didn’t go as planned. I actually enjoyed my time. Though I didn’t spend a lot of time with my family at home, I enjoyed my time with my external (outside) family. The first day of break I stayed on campus and worked to make extra money and went home on Thursday night. On Thursday I went to the grocery store with my mom and then saw my neice and nephew. On Friday I went over to my aunt’s house to do her hair and see my beautiful baby cousin named Shiloh. I enjoyed my time with her. Later on that day my big cousin let me drive her car back to my house. On Saturday I got to see a play at my church that my little brothers, cousins, and sister were in. It was very well done and put together nicely. My weekend ended with me going to church then coming back to Fontbonne.
