After nearly 4 months of work, the production finally came together, and “Mary Poppins” was a huge success! Myself and the rest of the cast and crew spent over 80 hours at the high school last week. We were working until the very last minute to get everything ready: all the costumes, props, set pieces, decorating the lobby, printing tickets and programs, and the list goes on. After the performances, we received a lot of positive feedback from the audience members. Adults and kids alike enjoyed all the magical elements that the show brings. It is extremely rewarding seeing it all come together, and see everyone’s hard work pay off. Fort Zumwalt East has never put on a production quite as challenging as this one. There were actors being flown, almost 40 set changes, over 120 costumes, hair and makeup changes between every scene, and dance choreography taken straight from the Broadway version. The director set the bar extremely high with this one, but everyone rose to the occasion. It is truly amazing to see what high school students can pull off. They are capable than much more than we believe them to be at times. I am so grateful to work for the FZE theater department. My experience with “Mary Poppins” was practically perfect in every way. And that’s a wrap!
