Hi everyone! My name is Anna, I’m 18, and I am a freshman at Fontbonne. I have wonderful professors and classes, and I’m enjoying starting this new phase of life. I’m also thrilled to have an opportunity to blog about my time at Fontbonne!
I come from a family of four — my parents, my older brother Matthew, and me. I was homeschooled all the way from birth through high school, which was a big reason why I picked Fontbonne — coming from a “class of one” to college is a bit of a change, haha! I am a lifelong resident of western St. Louis County (a city called Wildwood). We live in a great area with land and a very peaceful setting. I’m a commuter student, so I get my city time during the day and my country time in the evening, which is awesome!
Going hand-in-hand with my love of country life, I enjoy spending time outside, particularly pursuing whatever crazy fitness endeavor I come up with next! I live just a mile from a county park that has some amazing mountain bike/hiking trails, so you can often find me cruising or trail running on them. I’m currently training for a half-marathon after competing in various 5K and 10K runs, and I just completed the Conquer Castlewood Team Adventure Race with my dad (canoeing for a mile, mountain biking for five miles, trail running for three miles). If the weather isn’t conducive to outdoor training, I’m inside doing Pilates, yoga, or high intensity interval training. And I LIVE for the winter (yes, it’s my favorite season…sorry in advance) when I can go skiing at Hidden Valley, my affectionately-named “community hill”, or head out west with my family to real mountains. I’ve skied in 13 states, one Canadian province, and over 40 ski resorts…and I’m always looking to add some more to that list!
One more thing I couldn’t possibly leave out before I wrap up — my horses (pictures below)! I have a seven-year-old palomino Mustang named Blondie and a 12-year-old palomino Miniature Horse named Pearl. Blondie was born wild in Wyoming, rounded up when she was about 18 months old, competed in the Extreme Mustang Makeover in July 2015 (a trainer was given 100 days to gentle and train her), and I’ve had her since then. We spend a lot of time doing groundwork (games and exercises that strengthen our relationship), and I also ride her. Pearl was rescued from severe neglect and abuse in May 2014 and we adopted her in January 2015. She keeps every moment of life entertaining and I wouldn’t want her any other way! I can’t ride her because she’s so small, but we love to take walks around our property and show off her tricks!
That’s it until next time…I hope you enjoyed getting to “know” me! Thanks for reading!
