For college there are two things I recommend getting besides the obvious textbooks. That is a planner and a flash drive. These two things will save your life in college. The planner kept me organized and reminded me of what I had to do each day and when assignments were due. I like to be organized and this was something I learned at a very young age and it went with me through college and probably the rest of my life. Now, a flash drive. It is a good source for saving your documents. Also, keep back ups. When I save items I usually save it to my flash drive, desktop, and dropbox/email. You never know when technology decided to fail. Next thing you know your screwed on an assignment that is due the next day and you had a couple weeks to work on it. Learn from my mistake and just be cautious.
